Hesitation dribble is a basketball term used to describe a dribbling strategy used by an offensive player which usually involves a change of the pace or speed of his dribbling and movement using a stutter step in order to freeze or confuse the defensive player.
It is often described as a split-second freeze while dribbling, meant to trick a defender into changing direction.
It is done by dribbling with speed, then slowing down for a split second, before exploding past the defending player.
