Gibson attended the High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology in Brooklyn, New York. He then transferred to Stoneridge Prep in Tarzana, California before attending Calvary Christian High School in San Fernando, California.He then played three seasons of college basketball for the University of Southern California from 2006 to 2009.
In 2008, he was named to the Third-team All-Pac-10, and in 2009, he was named to the Second-team All-Pac-10 and he also became the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
Professional Career
Gibson was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 26th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2009 NBA Draft. He spent his first eight NBA seasons with the Bulls from 2009 to 2017, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 2010.In February 2017, Gibson was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He finished the 2016-17 season with the Thunder.
In July 2017, Gibson signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, reuniting with his former Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. He played two seasons with the Timberwolves from 2017 to 2019.
In July 2019, Gibson signed with the New York Knicks. He had two stints with the Knicks, from 2019 to 2022 and again briefly in 2023-24.
Gibson signed with the Washington Wizards for the 2022-23 season. After being waived by the Wizards, he re-joined the Knicks in December 2023.
In March 2024, Gibson signed with the Detroit Pistons, where he currently plays.
