He attended high school in Prentiss, Mississippi – a small town located near his hometown of Monticello. In his senior year, he was named Mississippi Mr. Basketball. He also received All-American honors from McDonald’s and Parade.Professional Career
Jefferson skipped college and declared for the NBA right out of high school. He was then drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round as the 15th overall pick. He played with the Celtics from 2004 to 2007. In his first year with the team, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.In 2007, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and played with them through to 20010. From 2010-2013, he played for the Utah Jazz then from 2013 to 2016, he was with the Charlotte Hornets. In 2013, he was named to the All-NBA Third Team.
He spent his last years in the NBA playing for the Indiana Pacers. They waived him in July 2018. Before fully retiring in March 2019, he played in China for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. He also announced that he was playing for the BIG3.
