Joel Anthony

Joel Anthony is a Canadian former professional basketball player who played 10 seasons in the National Basketball Association. He won two NBA Championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

Joel Vincent Anthony was born on August 9, 1982, in Montreal, Quebec. He stands 206 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 111 kg. He shot left and played both center and power forward throughout his career.

Anthony was raised in Montreal by his single mother, Erene Anthony, who immigrated from Antigua. He credits her as his inspiration and the person who made the biggest difference in his life. He has a sister named Charlotte Pryce.

He earned two notable nicknames during his career: "The Warden", given by fans after a strong defensive performance against Amar'e Stoudemire in 2010, and "Doc", used by his teammates.

High School and College Career

Anthony attended Selwyn House School and Emmanuel Christian School in Montreal, Quebec.

He played college basketball at Pensacola Junior College before transferring to UNLV, where he was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2007.

Professional Career

Anthony's professional career began in 2007 when he went undrafted but signed with the Miami Heat.

He spent the majority of his NBA career with the Heat (2007-2014), including a brief assignment to the Iowa Energy in 2008. During his time in Miami, he won back-to-back NBA championships in 2012 and 2013.

After leaving the Heat, Anthony had brief stints with the Boston Celtics (2014), Detroit Pistons (2014-2016), and San Antonio Spurs (2017). He concluded his career in Argentina with San Lorenzo (2018-2020), where he continued his winning ways by capturing two Liga de las Américas championships and two Liga Nacional de Básquet titles in both 2018 and 2019.

Throughout his career, Anthony wore numbers 50 and 30 while playing both center and power forward positions. His career was marked by success at both the NBA level and internationally, winning championships in two different continents.
