NBA: Anthony Edwards Cited for Assault

Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards has been cited for assault after he swung a chair around in frustration after the Wolves lost to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.

He was cited with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault after knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury as per the Denver police.

This came after Edwards allegedly hit two women who were working during the game where he flung the folding chair while walking off to the locker room. The women were said to have suffered non-serious injuries.

The NBA player is set to appear in court on June 9. If he is convicted, he could be facing up to 18 months of jail time plus a fine of US$1,000.

“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information,” the Timberwolves said in a statement.

“We have no further comment at this moment.”

NBA Central Tweeted the following: A law enforcement source said Edwards picked up a chair & swung it, striking a security guardA source confirmed the incident and said both employees were injured & asked to file charges.

The loss ended the season for the Timberwolves but prior to it, he led the team with 29 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
