Rick Barry is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association.

He was drafted into the league in 1865 and retired in 1980. In 1975, he became an NBA Champion while playing with the Golden State Warriors. That year, he was named the NBA Finals MVP. Barry has been inducted into both the Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

When he retired, the Golden State Warriors retired his Jersey Number – 24.

Richard Francis Dennis Barry III was born on March 28, 1944, in Elizabeth, New Jersey in the United States. He stands 201 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 93 kg. He is of Irish, French, and Lithuanian descent.

His son Canyon Barry played collegiate basketball for The University of Florida. His other sons also played basketball professionally.

He and his son Brent Barry became the second father and son duo to win an NBA Championship after Brent won the championship while playing with the San Antonio Spurs. His other sons who played basketball professionally are Scooter Barry, Jon Barry, and Drew Barry.

High School and College Career

He attended Roselle Park High School. For college, he attended and played collegiate basketball for the University of Miami where he played under Coach Bruce Hale. In 1965, he was named to the Consensus First-Team All-American. That year, he was also the NCAA Season Scoring Leader.

Professional Career

Barry was drafted into the NBA by the then-San Francisco Warriors, now the Golden State Warriors. In his first season with the team, he was named the 1966 Rookie of the Year. Barry was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

He was named an NBA All-Star for the first time in 1966. He would be named to the All-Star team eight times in total in his career. In 1967, he was named the NBA All-Star Game MVP. In 1968, he moved to play for the Oakland Oats of the American Basketball Association.

In 1970, he signed with the New York Nets and played with them for two seasons before moving back to the Warriors.

When he returned to the Warriors, he helped them win the 1975 NBA Championship and Barry was named the 1975 NBA Finals MVP. After he became a free agent in 1978, he signed to play for the Houston Rockets. He stayed with the Rockets until he retired in 1980.

After he retired, the Warriors retired jersey No.24 in his honor. He was also named to the 50th and 75th NBA Anniversary Teams. Barry was also named to the Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

He was also one of the first professional basketball players who were able to successfully transition into broadcasting. He has worked with CBS, TBS, and KNBR. He has also worked as a broadcaster for several team stations.
