Ard attended Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois. Later, he committed to play college basketball for the University of Cincinnati and was there from 1967 to 1970.From 1968 to 1970, he was named to the First-team All-MVC. In 1970, he was named the MVC Player of the Year.
Professional Career
Ard turned pro in 1970 and was selected in the 1st round as the 6th overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics. He was then traded to the New York Knicks. In 1973, he signed with the Memphis Tams in the ABA.From 1974 to 1977, he played for the Boston Celtics and he was part of the team that won the 1976 NBA Championships. Before he retired, he played for the Chicago Bulls from 1977 to 1978.
