“I don’t blame him, we don’t blame Kevin for leaving at all,” Thompson said, speaking to Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on “All the Smoke,” their podcast.
“[Durant] is from the East Coast, and if I was [from] the East Coast and I had a great – was two games away from a three-peat, it’s like, ‘What more do y’all want from me, man? You want a six-peat?’”
“If it wasn’t for catastrophic things, we probably would have had three championships in that time, but man, we don’t blame him at all.”
Back in 2018, both Durant and Thompson suffered from season-ending injuries during the NBA Finals. This led to the Warriors eventually losing to the Toronto Raptors.
It was a tragic end to a time when the Warriors were led by Stephen Curry, Durant, Thompson, and Draymond Green.
“We knew he kind of wanted to bounce a little bit and go back home, and we’ll still forever have those two going back to back,” Thompson said.
“And gosh, so close [to a three-peat]. But what can you do.”
It has been three years since Durant left the Warriors. It’s clear that Thompson only holds fond memories of Durant.
Thompson has been in the news recently as he has confirmed that he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.
