Malik Monk

Malik Monk is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has also played for the Charlotte Hornets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Malik Ahmad Monk was born on February 4, 1998, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States of America. He stands 191 cm tall and his weight is listed at 90 kg. Monk is a right-handed shooter and is a shooting guard.

Monk is the son of Jackie Monk and Michael Scales. His older brother Marcus Monk played college basketball and football at Arkansas before playing in the National Football League.

High School and College Career

Monk attended Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas. As a senior in 2016, Monk was named Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball Arkansas.

In his lone season at the University of Kentucky, Monk was named SEC Player of the Year and a consensus second-team All-American.

Professional Career

Monk was selected with the 11th overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2017 NBA Draft. He played his first four NBA seasons with the Hornets from 2017 to 2021.

In 2020, he was found using illegal substances, so the NBA decided to suspend him for violating the NBA’s substance use policy. His suspension was lifted on June 8 when he successfully complied with the anti-drug program.

In the 2021-22 season, Monk signed with the [Los Angeles Lakers]]. In July 2022, Monk signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. As of 2024, he still plays for the Kings.
