He is right-handed and he has made his mark as a point guard and a shooting guard.His father Sasa Doncic is a former professional basketball player and a basketball coach. Dončić is of Slovenian and Serbian descent. He started playing basketball at a young age and started to play organized basketball when he was seven.
Youth Career
He started his youth career playing for Union Olimpija and was coached by Grega Brezovec. Then when he was 13 years old, he started playing for the Real Madrid basketball club in Spain.Professional Career
In 2015, he made his professional debut after he was promoted to the senior team at Real Madrid. He started rising to prominence around 2016. Then he was named Euroleague Most Valuable Player in the 2017-2018 season.In 2017, he also represented Slovenia internationally in EuroBasket. He helped lead the team to win the gold. During his time in Spain, he was also named the 2019 Euroscar Player of the Year.
Doncic joined the NBA during the 2018 NBA Draft. He was the third overall pick in the first round, chosen by the Atlanta Hawks. Later, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
In his first year with the Mavericks, he was named to the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team and he was also named that year’s NBA Rookie of the Year. From 2020 to 2023, he was named to the All-NBA First Team.
Also in 2020, he was named an NBA All-Star for the first time. He would be named an All-Star again in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
