Paolo Lorenzi
Paolo Lorenzi is a professional tennis player from Italy. He currently competes in the ATP World Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour both in the men’s singles and men’s doubles. He is under the training of Coach Cluaio Galoppini.
Lorenzi was born on December 15, 1981 in Siena Province, which is part of Italy’s Tuscan region. He was only 7 years old when he started to play tennis after his older brother, Bruno Lorenzi, introduced him to the sport. Since then, the learned to love tennis and developed a preference to playing in hard courts outdoor.
This right-handed tennis player turned pro in 2003 when he was 21 years old. His first professional win came in August 2003 in Našice, Croatia, where he also won his first Futures title on clay after defeating Hungary’s Sebo Kiss. In September 2006 in Tarragona, Spain, he victoriously finished the match on clay against Morocco’s Younes El Aynaoui, to claim his first Challenger title.
Lorenzi gave a shot at the men’s doubles in 2008 by pairing up with Giancarlo Petrazzuolo, another Italian. Since then, the duo has been competing in tournaments.
In early 2010, he debuted in his first Grand Slam - the Australian Open. He was, however, cut short in the first round of the tournament by Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus. He also competed in the tournament’s men’s doubles with Hungarian Christophe Rochus.
Other than being a tennis player, Lorenzi has also been studying in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Siena; his father, Marco Lorenzi, is a doctor.
In May 2015, Lorenzi defeated Matthew Ebden during the quarterfinal round of the Eskisehir Cup, making him the third player to win 300 matches in the ATP Challenger Tour tournaments. Recently, he entered the 2017 Wimbledon Championships, and won against Horacio Zeballos. However, he lost in the second round to Jared Donaldson.
So far, Lorenzi has a career record of 99-158, and has 1 career title to his name. He does not have any Grand Slam titles yet – either for singles or doubles.
