Lorenzi informed ATPTour.com that he will not be playing professional tennis anymore. He was thinking about making New York the last stop of his career. One of the things that caused him to retire is the injury that he incurred at the beginning of the year. He also mentioned that his body is not the same as before, so he knows when it’s time to finish.
After his loss, Lorenzi spent two hours chitchatting with his friends who were present during his match. He said that he tried his best and he was hoping to make a good memory out of it.
The US Open is close to Lorenzi’s heart, as his 3 Grand Slam wins came from the US Open. Previously, he reached the ATP Top 100 when he was 27, and at age 34, he became the oldest tennis player champion in ATP history. In, 2017, he won 421 ATP Challenger tour and 21 titles, which made him reach a career-high record of World Number 33.
When asked about his plan for the future, he mentioned that he is considering coaching. Upon his graceful exit as a professional tennis player, he thanked his wife, family, and fans for their support throughout his lengthy career. Although this was another sad news in the tennis industry, still Lorenzi positively noted that his tennis journey is the best journey of his life.
