Alex T. Michelsen was born on August 25, 2004, in Aliso Viejo, California, USA. He stands 193 cm tall and plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.Michelsen began playing tennis at a young age and rose through the junior ranks, winning both the singles and doubles titles at the 2022 Easter Bowl and capturing the 2022 Wimbledon Boys' doubles title with Sebastian Gorzny. He initially committed to play college tennis at the University of Georgia before deciding to turn professional in 2023.

Career
Michelsen made his Grand Slam doubles debut at the 2022 US Open and won his first ITF title in East Lansing later that year. In 2023, he reached his first Challenger final in Rome, USA, and won his first Challenger title in Chicago.He made his ATP debut at the Mallorca Championships and reached his first ATP Tour final at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, finishing runner-up to Adrian Mannarino. Michelsen turned professional in July 2023 and made his Grand Slam singles debut at the US Open, reaching the second round and entering the top 120 in the rankings.
He continued his rise in 2024, reaching the third round of the Australian Open on debut and breaking into the top 75. Michelsen scored his first top-10 win against Alex de Minaur at the Los Cabos Open and reached the quarterfinals. He also reached the semifinals at the Winston-Salem Open and made his second ATP final of the season.
On the doubles court, he reached his first Masters 1000 final at the Cincinnati Open with Mackenzie McDonald. Michelsen closed out the year with a career-high ranking inside the top 50.
In 2025, Michelsen reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas for his first top-15 Grand Slam win, and also advanced past James McCabe and Karen Khachanov.
