Peyton Stearns

Peyton Stearns is an American professional tennis player who reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of World No. 28 on May 19, 2025.

She has won one WTA singles title and is recognized for her aggressive baseline play and mental toughness. Stearns is the first Texas Longhorn to win the NCAA Division I Women’s Singles National Championship and has quickly established herself as one of the top young Americans on tour.

Player Profile and Personal Life

Peyton Stearns was born on October 8, 2001, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Standing 173 cm tall, she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Stearns started playing tennis at age eight and majored in Applied Movement Science at the University of Texas, where she was a three-time All-American and led the Longhorns to back-to-back NCAA team titles.

Her favorite surface is hard court, and she enjoys reading and spending time with family.

Junior Career

Stearns won the prestigious Orange Bowl in 2020 as a wildcard and was a standout in USTA junior events. She played two seasons of college tennis at Texas, becoming the first Longhorn to win the NCAA singles crown in 2022.

Career

Since turning professional in June 2022, Stearns has made rapid progress on the WTA Tour. She reached her first WTA quarterfinal at the 2023 ATX Open and her first final at the 2023 Copa Colsanitas, breaking into the top 100 in April 2023.

Her breakthrough at Grand Slams came at the 2023 US Open, where she reached the fourth round. In 2024, Stearns won her maiden WTA singles title at the Rabat Grand Prix and posted third-round runs at both Roland Garros and the US Open, as well as a quarterfinal at the Canadian Open in Toronto.

In 2025, Stearns reached her career-high ranking after a semifinal run at the Italian Open, where she became the first player in the Open Era to win three consecutive WTA main-draw matches in third-set tiebreaks, defeating Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka, and Elina Svitolina.

She also reached the fourth round at the Madrid Open and Miami Open and notched her first top-10 win over Zheng Qinwen in Dubai.
