Julia Vakulenko

Julia Vakulenko is a Ukrainian-born Spanish former professional tennis player who achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 32. She is best known for her run to the fourth round of the US Open in 2007.

Julia Olehivna Vakulenko was born on July 10, 1983, in Yalta, Ukrainian SSR. She stands 183 cm tall and she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.

In April 2008, after living in Spain for ten years, she renounced her Ukrainian citizenship to acquire Spanish citizenship. She currently resides in Barcelona.

Professional Career

Vakulenko turned professional in 1998. She achieved her career-high singles ranking of World No. 32 in November 2007. Her best Grand Slam singles performance was reaching the fourth round of the US Open in 2007. She also made it to the third round of the French Open in 2003 and 2006, and the second round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Vakulenko won seven singles titles on the ITF Circuit and achieved a career-high doubles ranking of No. 136 in February 2004. She retired from professional tennis in 2011.
