She currently resides in Madrid.Her father, Juan Manuel Ruano, worked for Iberia Airlines, and her mother, Virginia Pascual, is a housewife. She has a brother, Juan Ramón, who is a tennis professional and also served as her coach. She initially hyphenated her family names but has omitted the hyphen since 1998.
Professional Career
Ruano Pascual turned professional in January 1992. While she had a solid singles career, winning three WTA Tour titles and reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 28, her greatest achievements came in doubles. She won 43 career doubles titles and was ranked World No. 1 in doubles in September 2003.She won 11 major titles in doubles, with ten in women's doubles and one in mixed doubles. Eight of her women's doubles titles were with her long-time partner, Paola Suárez.
The pair reached nine consecutive Grand Slam finals from 2002 to 2004, winning five of them, and were named ITF World Champions for three straight years. With Suárez, she won the Australian Open in 2004, the French Open in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005, and the US Open in 2002, 2003, and 2004.
In 2008 and 2009, she won two more French Open titles with Anabel Medina Garrigues.
Her mixed doubles title came at the French Open in 2001 with Tomás Carbonell. She also won two Olympic silver medals in doubles. Ruano Pascual retired from professional tennis in 2010.
