Alejandro Tabilo is a Chilean professional tennis player who reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 19 in July 2024. He is currently the No. 1 Chilean player and has claimed two ATP singles titles, including becoming the first Chilean man in the Open Era to win a grass court title.

His father, Ricardo, is from Antofagasta, and his mother, María, is from San Felipe. After gaining dual nationality, Tabilo first traveled to Chile at age 18 to compete and connect with his heritage. He permanently relocated to Chile at 19, fulfilling his dream of representing his parents’ country.

Tabilo currently resides in Santiago and is coached by Horacio Matta.

Career

Tabilo turned professional in 2015 and began making his mark on the ATP Challenger Tour. He made his Grand Slam debut at the 2020 Australian Open, where he reached the second round. That same year, he broke into the top 200 in the ATP rankings and finished the season ranked No. 169.

In 2021, Tabilo made his Masters 1000 debut and won his first match at that level at Indian Wells.

He also captured his first Challenger title in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and ended the year as the No. 2 Chilean singles player.

The 2022 season saw Tabilo reach his first ATP final at the Córdoba Open, defeating top-seeded players including Diego Schwartzman before finishing runner-up to Albert Ramos Viñolas. He reached the semifinals at the Chile Open and made his top 100 debut, later advancing to the third round at Wimbledon for his first win at that major.

By July, he became the No. 1 Chilean player.

Tabilo’s 2023 season included four Challenger titles and a fourth-round appearance at the Indian Wells Masters. He returned to the top 100, finishing the year ranked No. 85.

2024 marked a major breakthrough for Tabilo. He won his maiden ATP Tour title at the ASB Classic in Auckland and his second at the Mallorca Championships, becoming the first Chilean man in the Open Era to win a grass court title. He reached the semifinals of the Italian Open Masters 1000, defeating World No. 1 Novak Djokovic for his first top-10 win and making history as the first Chilean semifinalist at that event since 2009.

Tabilo also reached the third round at Wimbledon and the round of 16 at the National Bank Open in Montreal, finishing the year as the top-ranked Latin American male player.

In 2025, Tabilo continued to impress with another win over Djokovic at the Monte-Carlo Masters, becoming only the third player to win his first two career meetings against the former World No. 1.
