Francisco Cerúndolo was born on August 13, 1998, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he still resides. Standing 185 cm tall and weighing 80 kg, he plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.

Introduced to tennis by his family, Cerúndolo grew up alongside his younger brother Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, who is also a professional tennis player. Their family has a rich sporting background, with their father Alejandro Cerúndolo being a former tennis player and coach, and their mother María Luz Rodríguez a sport therapist and former tennis player.

The brothers have made history as the first siblings to reach consecutive ATP finals since 2017.

Career

Cerúndolo made his ATP main draw debut in 2019 at the Argentina Open after receiving a wildcard.

He steadily improved his game, breaking into the top 100 in 2022 after reaching the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires and the semifinals at the Rio Open. That year, he also made a strong impression at the Miami Open by reaching the semifinals on his Masters 1000 debut, becoming the lowest-ranked semifinalist in the tournament’s history at that time.

In 2022, Cerúndolo won his first ATP singles title at the Swedish Open in Bastad, defeating Sebastián Báez in the final. He continued to climb the rankings with strong performances at the Hamburg European Open and other ATP 500 events. He represented Argentina in the Davis Cup and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Cerúndolo’s breakthrough continued in 2023 when he reached the fourth round of the French Open and the semifinals of the Australian Open. He also won the Eastbourne International on grass, becoming the first Argentine to win an ATP grass-court title since 1995. Throughout the year, he recorded multiple top-10 wins, including victories over Casper Ruud, Félix Auger-Aliassime, and Jannik Sinner.

In 2024, Cerúndolo won his third ATP title at the Croatia Open in Umag and reached the quarterfinals of several ATP 500 and Masters 1000 tournaments. He achieved his 100th career tour-level win at the Paris Masters with a victory over Andrey Rublev.

Cerúndolo also represented Argentina at the 2024 Paris Olympics, reaching the third round.

In early 2025, Cerúndolo reached the final of the Argentina Open, defeating top seed Alexander Zverev en route, and continued to perform well at Masters events, including quarterfinal appearances at Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid. He reached his first Masters semifinal on clay at Madrid.
