Zheng Qinwen is a professional tennis player from China. She reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 5 in November 2024 and is the first Asian player to win an Olympic gold medal in singles, achieving this historic feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Zheng Qinwen was born on October 8, 2002, in Shiyan, Hubei, China. She spent her early childhood in Chengdu, Sichuan, before moving to Wuhan at age eight to pursue tennis training. By age eleven, she was training in Beijing with Carlos Rodriguez, the former coach of tennis player Li Na.

She Barcelona in 2019 for further development. Zheng cites Li Na and Olympic hurdler Liu Xiang as major inspirations and credits her parents for their support and sacrifices.

Off the court, she enjoys walking with her family, reading, singing, roller coasters, and is a fan of the K-pop group Blackpink.

Career

Zheng turned professional in 2018 and made her WTA main-draw debut in 2021.

She broke into the top 100 in early 2022 after reaching the second round of the Australian Open. That year, she reached the fourth round at the French Open, the third round at Wimbledon, and her first WTA final in Tokyo.

That same year, Zheng was named WTA Newcomer of the Year.

In 2023, Zheng won her maiden WTA titles at Palermo and Zhengzhou, reached the quarterfinals at the US Open, and finished the year ranked inside the top 20.

She also won gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. In 2024, Zheng had a breakthrough season, reaching her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open and winning the gold medal in singles at the Paris Olympics, becoming the first Asian player to win Olympic gold in singles.

She also defended her Palermo title, reached the semifinals at the China Open, and was runner-up at the Wuhan Open and the WTA Finals in Riyadh.

In 2025, Zheng continued her strong form, reaching the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, Miami, and Charleston, and the semifinals at the Italian Open, where she defeated World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka before falling to Coco Gauff in a third-set tiebreak.
