Ilya Ivashka is a Belarusian professional tennis player who was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus. His brother-in-law is also a tennis player, and they mostly play tennis during their spare time. Ivashka is currently ranked at World Number 46 for the singles ranking while being at World Number 526 at the doubles ranking.
Breakthrough to Top 100
Ivashka had reached the Top 150 earlier in his career in February 2018 after he successfully made it to the semifinals of 2018 Open 13. As a rookie, he was able to defeat Laslo Djere who was at World No. 193 at that time, and tennis legend Stan Wawrinka. He entered the top 100 as of August 2018 after getting into the third round as a qualifier.
Professional Career
2021 is by far the most fruitful year for Ivashka as he was seen being more active in playing competitive tennis. He entered the 2021 Andalucia Open and defeated two top-seeded players named Pedro Martinez and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before he was defeated by Jaume Mumar.
After the Andalucia Open, he entered the 2021 BMW Open as a qualifier but was defeated by the World Number 6, Alexander Zverev. He considered this match as one of the most memorable matches he had ever had.
He also participated in the 2021 Eastbourne International by defeating Alexei Popyrin. After the tournament, his rank went higher to World Number 79. He eventually made his Grand Slam debut on the Wimbledon Championship where he reached the 4th round and beat Jeremy Chardy and Jordan Thomson. However, he was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in the finals. At this point, he reached World Number 63 as of July 2021.
