Jasmine Paolini was born on January 4, 1996, in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Tuscany, Italy, and resides in Bagni di Lucca. She is right-handed and has a two-handed backhand. She used to be coached by Renzo Furlan before they parted ways in 2025 and she started working with Marc Lopez. Since turning pro, she has earned more than US$9.7 million in prize money.Her father, Ugo, is Italian, and her mother, Jacqueline, is of Polish and Ghanaian descent.
Paolini began playing tennis at age five, introduced by her father and uncle, and trained at the Mirafiume Tennis Club. She has a brother, William Paolini, who also plays tennis. Paolini is fluent in Italian, English, and Polish.
Juniors
In January 2013, Paolini won her only junior title at the J4 Wilson ITF Junior Classic in Bergheim.She made her Junior Grand Slam debut after qualifying for the US Open later that year and reached the third round in singles. She also reached the third round of the Australian Open in January 2014.
Career
Paolini turned professional in 2015 and steadily rose through the ranks, winning her first WTA singles title in Portorož in 2021. She broke into the top 100 in 2019 and top 50 in 2022.In 2024, Paolini had a breakthrough season, reaching her first Grand Slam singles finals at the French Open and Wimbledon, becoming the first Italian woman to reach both finals in the same year.
She also reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and US Open.
Paolini won her first WTA 1000 singles title at the Dubai Championships in 2024. In May 2025, she made history by winning the Italian Open in Rome, defeating Coco Gauff in the final to become the first Italian woman to win the event since 1985.
She is the oldest woman to win her first Rome title in the Open Era. In doubles, Paolini and Sara Errani won Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games, Italy’s first Olympic tennis gold, and three WTA 1000 doubles titles together.
Paolini has seven WTA doubles titles and has been ranked as high as No. 6 in doubles.
She was instrumental in leading Italy to the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup title and was named WTA Doubles Team of the Year with Errani. In 2025, Paolini continued her strong form, reaching the semifinals at the Miami Open and Stuttgart, and winning her second WTA 1000 singles title in Rome.
