He has had top finishes in all the Grand Slam events including making it to the finals event at the French Open in 1999. He has also made it to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour Finals and the Grand Slam Cup semi-finals in 1999.

Medvedev was born on August 31, 1974, in Kyiv, Ukraine in the SSR, Soviet Union. He stands 193 centimeters tall and his last listed weight is 91 kilograms. He is a right-handed player and he has a two-handed backhand. He turned pro in 1991 and retired from professional tennis in 2001.He is the brother of Natalia Medvedeva, who was also a former professional tennis player on the WTA Tour. The siblings represented Ukraine in the Hopman Cup in 1995. They made it to the finals but lost to Anke Huber and Boris Beker from Germany.
Despite the same last name, he is not related to an active tennis player Daniil Medvedev.
Career
He made it to one Grand Slam finals, the French Open in 1999. Prior to this, his top finishes in the Grand Slam events were Quarter-Final finishes at the 1993 US Open and the 1995 Australian Open. He also reached the fourth round at the 1994 Wimbledon.In addition to his Grand Slam finishes, Medvedev also made it to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour Finals in 1993 and the Grand Slam Cup Finals in 1999.
One of the main rivals in his career is Sergi Bruguera. They have a head-to-head record of 5-5. He had the most number of Top 10 wins in 1993. This was the lead-up to him being ranked No.4 in the world in 1994.
He endured issues with his form in the mid and late 1990s. He announced his retirement from the sport in 2001.
