Yana Sizikova
Yana Sizikova was born Yana Dmitriyevna Sizikova on November 12, 1994. Her hometown is Moscow, Russia. This professional tennis player plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. She plays both singles and doubles. As of April 2021, she holds a ranking of 745. Sizikova has gained some infamy for having been arrested in June 2021 during the French Open due to charges related to match-fixing.
Not much is known about Yana Sizikova’s personal life. Aside from the fact that she is from Russia and she started playing tennis at an early age. She made her debut in the main draw during the St Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy in 2018 at the age of 23. This was her WTA Tennis Tour debut as well. She had been playing for a few years prior and in June 2016, she reached a rank of 336 for singles. As of June 2021, this remains a career-high ranking for Yana. She has since dropped in ranking and as of April 2021, she is ranked at 754.
Throughout her professional career, Sizikova has had more success playing doubles than singles matches. In March 2020, she reached a WTA ranking of 89 for doubles. Her ranking for doubles as of April 2021 is 99, still within the Top 100. Her doubles games have also given her a chance to participate in Grand Slam events for the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. For the French Open, she participated in 2020 and 2021.
Over the years, she has won three ITF titles in singles. For doubles, she has 43 ITF titles and 1 WTA title. She won her WTA title alongside doubles partner Anastasia Patopava. This was in 2019 at the Swiss Open Tournament. Throughout her career, her reporter earnings are around 170,000.00 Euros.
During the French Open 2021, she was arrested by local authorities under allegations that she helped fix a doubles match during the previous year’s event. She was arrested after she had lost her first round of matches with Ekaterina Alexandrova. She was released shortly thereafter. No comments have yet been made by the International Tennis Integrity Agency as well as by the Russian Tennis Federation regarding the matter.
