Latisha Chan, formerly known by her Chinese name Yung-jan Chan, is a Taiwanese professional tennis player and a former World No. 1 in doubles. She has won 33 career titles in doubles, including a major title at the 2017 US Open.
She also has a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles, winning three major titles in the discipline.
Player Profile and Personal Life
Latisha Chan was born on August 17, 1989, in Dongshi, Taiwan. She stands 170 cm tall, and she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.She is the elder sister of fellow professional tennis player Chan Hao-ching, with whom she has often partnered in tournaments. Chan is coached by her father, Chan Yuan-liang. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Transnational Sport Management and Innovation at National Taiwan Sport University.
Professional Career
Chan turned professional in August 2004. Her career is highlighted by her incredible success in doubles, where she became the World No. 1 in October 2017, a position she has held for a total of 34 weeks. She has won 33 career doubles titles, including a major title at the US Open in 2017 with Martina Hingis.She also finished runner-up at three other major doubles events: the Australian Open in 2007 and 2015, and the US Open in 2007.
In mixed doubles, Chan has completed a career Grand Slam, winning three major titles. She won the French Open in 2018 and 2019, and the Wimbledon Championships in 2019, all with her partner Ivan Dodig.
In her singles career, Chan achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 50 in June 2007. Her best results include reaching the semifinals at the Japan Open in 2006 and the final at the Bangkok Open in 2007. She also reached the third round of the French Open and the third round of the US Open. Chan has represented Chinese Taipei at the Asian Games, winning numerous medals, and in the Billie Jean King Cup.
