Paula Badosa Gibert was born in New York City, USA, to Spanish parents Mireia Gibert Baró and Josep Badosa Codolar. She stands 180 cm tall and she is right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Badosa was a former junior World No. 8. She made her ITF Junior Circuit debut in 2012 and won her first junior singles title at the Mediterranee Avenir in Casablanca in 2014. Badosa turned professional in 2015 and made her WTA main-draw debut that year.She broke into the top 100 in 2019 after reaching the semifinals at Palermo and Karlsruhe. Injury setbacks in 2023 led to a drop in the rankings, but she returned in 2024 to win the Washington Open and reach the semifinals at Cincinnati, Beijing, and Ningbo, being named the 2024 WTA Comeback Player of the Year.
In 2025, Badosa was seeded 11th at the Australian Open and reached her first semifinal at the event, defeating Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals. This result returned her to the world’s top 10.
