Dayana Yastremska was born on May 15, 2000, in Odesa, Ukraine, and currently resides in Lyon, France. Standing 175 cm tall, she plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand.Her father, Oleksandr, was a volleyball player and city council member, and her mother, Marina, has been a key supporter throughout her career. Yastremska began playing tennis at age five, introduced to the sport by her grandfather Ivan.
She fled Ukraine for France with her younger sister during the 2022 Russian invasion.
Junior Career
Yastremska was a highly ranked junior, reaching No. 6 in the world and finishing runner-up in both singles and doubles at junior Grand Slams.She was the singles finalist at the 2016 Wimbledon girls’ event and a doubles finalist at the 2016 Australian Open. She also won a Grade A doubles title at the Copa Gerdau and was a consistent performer in high-level junior events.
Career
Yastremska made her WTA main draw debut in 2016 and quickly rose through the ranks, breaking into the top 100 and winning her first two WTA singles titles at Hong Kong (2018) and Hua Hin (2019) before turning 19.She added a third title at Strasbourg in 2019 and reached the semifinals at the 2024 Australian Open as a qualifier, defeating top-10 players Markéta Vondroušová and Victoria Azarenka. She has also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon (2019) and the third round at the French Open (2024, 2025) and US Open (2019).
Yastremska has been a finalist at three other WTA events, including Linz (2025), Lyon (2022), and Adelaide (2020). She has also reached a WTA 1000 doubles final in Beijing with Jelena Ostapenko and was a WTA 125 champion at Kozerki in 2023.
Yastremska has represented Ukraine in the Billie Jean King Cup and at the Olympics.
