Yuichi Sugita was born on September 18, 1988 in Sendai, Japan. The Japanese currently resides in Tokyo, Japan and plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. He stands at 5 feet and 8 inches tall, and he turned pro in 2006.

Sugita started playing in the juniors and was able to compile a record of 34-19. He was able to rank as high as No. 73 on February 2006.

Since turning pro, Sugita was able to steadily climb through the ranks and participate in several events. By 2014, Sugita was able to qualify for the Wimbledon Championships for the said year, and was able to defeat Marco Chiudinelli who is from Switzerland. It was historic for him as it was the first time he was able to qualify for a Grand Slam after multiple failed attempts.

Two years later, Sugita was finally able to breakthrough to the Top 100. He had a great year, and was able to play at the Australian Open although he lost to Gael Monfils. The following year, Sugita was able to earn his first ATP world tour title, and by 2018, he won against a Top 10 player when he went against Jack Sock.

Since the Japanese turned pro, he has a career record of 39 victories and 50 losses. He has 1 career title to his name, but no Grand Slam titles yet. He is currently ranked at No. 40 as of March 2018, but the highest rank No. 36 he was able to achieve was at No. 36 on October 2017.
