Johanna Konta
Johanna Konta was born on May 17, 1991 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Up until 2012, Konta represented Australia, until she became a British citizen in May 2012. The British tennis player holds three passports – British, Australian, and Hungarian, and was introduced to tennis through an after-school program when she was 8 years old.
In 2006, Konta started playing her first few events in the ITF Circuit and continued to play there until 2010. It was during this year that Konta played her first WTA qualifying events at Quebec City and Copenhagen. A few years later, Konta was able to make her Top 100 debut when she rose from No. 109 to No. 96 in June 2014.
A year later, Konta was able to make a breakthrough and have her first Top 50 season. Although her year started with some struggling, she was able to somehow recover in the latter part of the year. By 2017, Konta was able to make her second Top 10 season, and won titles at the WTA as well as some other impressive performances.
Problems with her form affected her performance in 2018 and she ended the season at world number 38. She started 2019 with a much better form, which enabled her to reach the finals of the Italian Open and her first win at the French Open. Konta also moved back to the world top number 30.
So far, Konta has a career record of 357 victories and 218 losses. She has also won 3 WTA and 11 ITF titles. The highest rank that Konta attained was at No. 4 in July 2017. As of May 2019, however, she is currently ranked at No. 26. She also does not have any Grand Slam tournament titles, although she has played in all four Grand Slam tournaments. Her most recent appearance at a Grand Slam tournament was in 2017.
