Katarina Srebotnik is a Slovenian former professional tennis player who reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 20, reached in 2006. She is also a former World No. 1 in women’s doubles. She has won six Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Katarina Srebotnik was born on March 12, 1981, in Slovenj Gradec, Yugoslavia, and later resided in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Standing 180 cm tall and weighing 67 kg, Katarina Srebotnik played right-handed with a two-handed backhand.

She began playing tennis at age six and was mentored by Gabriela Sabatini during her junior years. She retired in 2022. Throughout her junior career, she has won US$8 million in prize money.

Junior Career

Srebotnik was a standout junior, winning the Wimbledon girls’ singles title in 1998 and finishing as runner-up at the US Open the same year. She reached No. 2 in the ITF junior world rankings.

Career

Katarina Srebotnik turned professional in 1999 and made an immediate impact, winning her first WTA singles title at Oeiras and her first doubles title the previous year in Makarska with Tina Križan. She quickly established herself as a formidable all-court player, breaking into the top 100 and later the top 20 in singles.

While Srebotnik enjoyed success in singles—winning four WTA titles and reaching the fourth round at both the French Open and US Open—her greatest achievements came in doubles. She won 39 WTA doubles titles, including the 2011 Wimbledon title with Květa Peschke, and reached the world No. 1 ranking in July 2011.

Srebotnik was a finalist at all four Grand Slam doubles events and claimed victories at premier tournaments such as Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, and Rome Masters.

In mixed doubles, Katarina Srebotnik was one of the most decorated players of her generation, winning five Grand Slam titles: the French Open (1999, 2006, 2010), US Open (2003), and Australian Open (2011). She also reached six additional Grand Slam mixed doubles finals.

She was honored by the Guinness World Records in 2021 for being the first and youngest player to win her debut event in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Srebotnik represented Slovenia in the Fed Cup.

She played her last match in 2020 and was officially honored for her career in 2022.
