Thirty year old Katarina Srebotnik ranked twentieth on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour held August 2006. This was her highest rank so far as a singles tennis player. Popularly called Kata, this right handed firebrand won the 1998 Wimbledon singles title and ranked runner-up in US Open in her juniors.
Strebotnik debut in 1995 in the ITF and won the ITF singles in Ismailia the year after. She has since won the same title in 1997 in Zadar, 1998 in Sibenik and 1999 in Dubai. In April 12, 199, she ranked 88 in the world’s Top 100. She won her first Tier I semifinal in Tokyo but lost to Sandrine Testud. By February 200, she was already ranked 49 and competed in the Olympics only to lose in the first round. This however, did not deter her and went on to compete in the doubles category.
With Piet Norval, she won the French Open mixed doubles competition in 1999, beating Larisa Neiland and Rick Leach. She snagged the US Open cup with Bob Bryan in 2003 and in 2006, won her second French Open pairing with Nenad Zimonjic with Elena Likhovstseva and Daniel Nestor as opponents. Strebotnik has also placed second in the US Open in 2002 (with Bob Bryan) and in 2005 (with Nenad Zimonjic). With her regular mixed double partner Nenad Zimonjic, she has garnered the runner up position in the 2007 and 2008 French Open. She has yet to win a championship in the doubles category only ranking second in the 2006 US Open (with Dinara Safina), 2007 French Open and 2007 Wimbledon (with Ai Sugiyama).
Katarina Srebotnik is considered one of the world’s best doubles players and she currently lives in Dubai. Currently, her record as a doubles player is at 501 victories with 231 losses. She has amassed 28 WTA titles plus 19 ITF titles, and is currently ranked at No. 2 in women’s doubles. She did, however, reach the No. 1 spot on July 4, 2011, but fell to No. 2 in September. She currently has one Grand Slam title to her name, which is the Wimbledon Open 2011, and has also reached the semifinal round of the Australian Open in 2011.
