China’s Li Na has crashed out of the tournament she won two years ago after a three-set defeat to American Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the French Open on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Chinese, who was the 2011 French Open champion, crashed out in the second round going down 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
“I know for sure I lost seven games in a row. It was tough conditions, back to the court three times,” said Li.
“But for both players it was the same, so I need to talk to myself and talk to the team to see what happened.”
Elsewhere in the women’s draw, Samantha Stosur triumphed, moving into the third round, while Maria Sharapova was on her way to victory at 6-2, 4-2 against Eugenie Bouchard before play was suspended due to rain.
