Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond won the US Open women’s doubles title by defeating Yaroslava Shedova and Vania King, the defending champions.
Despite all the drama that went down at the US Open women’s singles between Serena Williams and Sam Stosur, the women’s doubles tournament went down without a hitch. For Lisa Raymond, the victory was her sixth Grand Slam title in women’s doubles, which she gladly shared with her partner Liezel Huber.
Incidentally, Raymond won her third doubles title in the US Open with Sam Stosur as her partner. During their match, Raymond and Huber were able to save match point when they trailed during the second set. However, the ladies were able to reach the tiebreaker in the third-set. After they won the point that allowed them to advance to 6-2, Huber thought that they had already won and started celebrating.
Although the celebration was rather premature, Huber and Raymond did eventually win the match two points later.
Last year, Huber paired with Nadia Petrova but was defeated by the Shedova-King partnership. This time around, Huber was able to avenge their loss by clinching the title.
