Kim Clijsters Bags WTA Championship Title

Despite being on the sidelines for six weeks and overcoming a car accident, Kim Clijsters was as graceful as ever as she faced the top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki on the tennis court during the WTA Championship final, which ends the whole season.

The 27-year old tennis star gave the match everything that she had and as a result, she was able to win the WTA Championship title for the third time, defeating Wozniacki in a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 match.

The Belgian was previously sidelined due to a infected foot. This was her first tournament since she won the U.S. Open in September, and managed to improve to a 6-3 during the finals since she came out of retirement. On Saturday, she was able to defeat Samantha Stosur in the semifinal round, just hours after a truck hit her courtesy car’s right front door.

After earning $1.4 million with the victory, Clijsters said, “It was a tough match… I’m glad I won it and it must be disappointing for Caroline, but I don’t know how many more years I’m going to keep doing this.”

The victory was Clijsters’ 40th career title after she won in Miami, Brisbane, and Cincinnati at this year’s U.S. Open.
