The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, has been awarded a wild card to compete in the 2026 ladies' singles at Wimbledon, organizers confirmed on Sunday.
Tennis icon Serena Williams will return to compete in singles on the WTA Tour at The Championships 2026, four years after playing her last professional match at the US Open.
On Sunday, Wimbledon organizers announced Williams accepted the final women's singles wild card invitation.
Earlier this month, the 44-year-old launched her comeback campaign in doubles at the HSBC Championships, successfully partnering with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko.
The duo clinched a 7-6(2), 6-2 triumph over the No. 3 seeds, Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe, advancing to the doubles quarterfinals.
Unfortunately, their doubles partnership came to an end due to a knee injury Mboko sustained while playing singles.
The following week, the former world No. 1 headed to Germany to team up with world No. 10 Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Tennis Open.
On German soil, the 73 WTA title holder outlined: "I’m excited to compete in front of the German fans and continue building momentum throughout the grass-court season."
Playing together for the first time, they lost to doubles specialists Erin Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos 6-4, 6-4.
On Tuesday, Serena and Venus Williams accepted a wild card to compete in women’s doubles at Wimbledon, their first appearance together in 10 years at The All England Club.
Between 2000 and 2016, they claimed six grass-court doubles titles at SW19.
At the Olympics, they made history together, winning three gold medals in women's doubles, a feat that stands unmatched to this day.
Throughout their remarkable careers, the American sisters clinched 14 Grand Slam doubles titles overall.
Now, the younger sister, who claimed seven titles at the grass court major in singles, is taking the first step further in her return to action.
Next Friday, the main draw will be made, unveiling Williams first-round adversary.
The sky is the limit for one of the greatest players of all time.
The 2026 Championships will run from June 29 to July 12 in London.
