Karolina Muchova is a professional tennis player from the Czech Republic. She reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 8 in September 2023 and has won one WTA singles title. Karolina Muchova was born in Olomouc, Czech Republic, to Josef Mucha, a former Czech footballer, and Hana Muchová. She stands 1.80 m tall and is right-handed with a two-handed backhand. She is coached by Emil Miške and has earned more than US$9 million in prize money.Muchova began playing tennis at age seven, introduced to the sport by her father.
Her tennis idol growing up was Roger Federer. She has a brother and moved to Prague in 2019 for training. Muchova is known for her all-court playing style, variety, and excellent net skills.
Career
Muchova turned professional in 2013 and began her career on the ITF Women's Circuit.She won her first ITF title in Michalovce, Slovakia, in 2014. She rose to prominence at the 2018 US Open, where she reached the third round as a qualifier, defeating World No. 12 Garbiñe Muguruza for her first top-20 win.
In 2019, she reached her first WTA final at the Prague Open and made her Grand Slam quarterfinal debut at Wimbledon, defeating World No. 3 Karolína Plíšková en route. She captured her maiden WTA singles title at the Korea Open in Seoul.
In 2021, Muchova reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, defeating World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, and matched her best Wimbledon result by reaching the quarterfinals.
She broke into the Top 20 for the first time. Injuries limited her play in 2022, but she returned to form in 2023, reaching her first Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros, where she defeated World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals and finished runner-up to Iga Świątek.
She also reached the final at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the semifinals at the US Open, ending the season with a career-high ranking of No. 8.
In 2024, Muchova underwent wrist surgery and missed the Australian Open. She returned mid-year, reaching the semifinals at the US Open and finals at the Palermo Ladies Open and China Open.
In 2025, Muchova reached the semifinals at both the Linz Open and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, becoming the Czech Republic’s top-ranked player.
