Serena Williams will continue her comeback campaign on grass, competing in the ladies’ doubles at The Championships with Venus Williams, as the sisters were awarded a wild card entry on Tuesday.
Twenty-three-time singles Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will reunite with her sister, former world No. 1 Venus Williams, to play women’s doubles at Wimbledon, their first appearance together in 10 years at The All England Club.
Between 2000 and 2016, they claimed six grass-court doubles titles at SW19.
At the Olympics, they made history together, winning three gold medals in women's doubles, a feat that stands unmatched to this day.
Throughout their remarkable careers, the American sisters clinched 14 Grand Slam doubles titles overall.
Following four years away from official tennis competition, Serena teamed up with young Canadian player Victoria Mboko at Queen's Club in the women's doubles.
The pair debuted with a solid 7-6(2), 6-2 triumph over the No. 3 seeds, Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe, advancing to the doubles quarterfinals.
However, Williams' comeback run at the HSBC Championships came to an end when Mboko sustained a knee injury playing singles, which will sideline her from the remainder of the grass swing.
Back to WTA Tour action in Germany, the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion joined forces with world No. 10 Karolina Muchova; they lost to doubles players Erin Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos 6-4, 6-4 at the Berlin Tennis Open on Tuesday.
In the lead-up to her appearance on German soil, the 73 WTA singles title holder shared: "Every tournament I add to my schedule right now feels special, and Berlin is no exception.
"I’m excited to compete in front of the German fans and continue building momentum throughout the grass-court season."
With the release of the initial wild cards for The Championships, the organizers revealed that Maja Chwalinska, the first singles qualifier in history to reach the Roland Garros final, has been granted a wild card invitation for the grass-court Slam.
On the men's side, three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka, competing in his farewell season from professional tennis, has been awarded a wild card entry in singles.
The 2026 Championships will run from June 29 to July 12 in London.
