Two-time BNP Paribas Open champion Carlos Alcaraz heads to his fifth straight semifinal at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, where he will meet two-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev for a spot in the championship match on Saturday.

Two-time BNP Paribas Open champion Carlos Alcaraz heads to his fifth straight semifinal at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, where he will meet two-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev for a spot in the championship match on Saturday.

Only two matches separate world number one Carlos Alcaraz from achieving a new career milestone in the California desert as he chases a third crown at the prestigious BNP Paribas Open.

On a 16-match winning streak this season, the seven-time major champion knocked out Briton Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday night, becoming the third man to reach five semifinals in a row in the tournament's history.

Across his powerful run to the last eight in Tennis Paradise, the Murcia native eased past 13th seed Casper Ruud, took the better of Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in a three-set thriller, and dismissed former Top 10 Grigor Dimitrov to start proceedings with a straightforward win.

On Saturday, the 22-year-old will face former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, who delivered a lights-out performance to end Jack Draper's title defense with a 6-1, 7-5 quarterfinal victory.

In his on-court interview, he commented: β€œI feel like I'm playing great, very good tennis. I never want to jump to conclusions like saying it’s the best tennis of my life or whatever. I'm playing very well.

β€œI feel like the court is a bit faster than the last two times I played him. The balls are different, too.”

The 11th seed has stayed perfect throughout his campaign at the Masters 1000, achieving the semifinals without having dropped a single set.

Next, the world No. 11 is hoping to overpower the Spaniard, who denied him the title twice (2023-2024), earning himself a shot for the crown at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The resurgent former world No. 1 launched his season on a high note by claiming the Brisbane International title early in January.

At the season's first major, the Australian Open, the Moscow native lost to American Learner Tien in the fourth round.

A brief run in Rotterdam and a round of 16 exit in Qatar followed; however, a standout run at the ATP 500 in Dubai led him to lift a landmark trophy, retaining a title, the number 23rd, for the first time in his career.

Moreover, he leads the Tour in match wins this season with 17, but on the other side of the net, no other than Alcaraz, on express mode, awaits.

Competing in his third tournament in 2026, Spain's No. 1 racquet has been unstoppable, clinching his maiden AO title and the Qatar Open in the lead-up to Indian Wells.

The stakes are as high as they can get for the title contenders this weekend.

The other semifinal will feature world No. 2 Jannik Sinner in blistering form against fourth seed Alexander Zverev, who has showcased clinical performances, ousting three seeded players on his way to the last four.

The Italian player leads the German 6-4 in their series, having prevailed over the latter in their last five encounters.
