Christopher Eubanks Continues Stunning Miami Open Run

Christopher Eubanks reached the first ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinals of his career after beating Adrian Mannarino.

The 26-year-old has received a lot of support during his stellar run at the Miami Open. Some of those who have shown him support have included actor Jamie Foxx.

“Blood, sweat, and tears, and true hard work has paid off for my good friend.” Foxx wrote.

But while the late bloomer is enjoying the attention from those who have noticed him after his breakout week, he made sure to remember those who encouraged him when he was younger.

One of those is tennis player Donald Young who still plays in the Challenger Tour.

“Donald was like a big brother. From the time I was 15, I got to train with him and travel. He actually took me to travel the world with him on the tour,” said Eubanks.

“I can remember like it was yesterday. On the way to school, we’re driving and my Dad goes, you’re going to start going over to the Young’s after school,” he said.

“Donald would come out around maybe like six and we would train for an hour and a half and that would be about it.

“But then when I started to get better, he said, ‘You know what, do you want to come and travel with me?’”

Young also took him traveling with him during tournaments.

“I actually turned 16 in Madrid. All that time I wasn’t playing junior tennis. I was just traveling and training with him and getting to see professional tennis up close.

“I think for me that just allowed me to really believe that this is possible. I can play professional tennis because if you don’t see it, it’s such an abstract thought unless you can see the level,” he said.
