Wimbledon runner-up Jabeur took on American player Shelby Rogers winning 4-6 6-4 6-3. World No.1 in womens doubles tennis, Gauff, on the other hand, won against Zhang Shuai of China in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Sadly, former champion Bianca Andreescu fell in the third round and was defeated by French player Caroline Garcia.
Jabeur vs Rogers Highlights:
This is the first time in her career that Tunisian Jabeur has reached the fourth round of the US Open. She did not make it past the third rounds from 2019 to 2021.
“Finally,” Jabeur said post-match. “[The US Open second week] means a lot. You know, I know that I don’t play the best on hard court, but it’s always amazing to see how I’m improving, how I’m pushing my limits.”
“I just don’t want to stop here. You know how much I love New York, how much I want to be here. Just amazing to put the hard work, even though the preparation for the hard court season wasn’t great. But just the main reason to be here and the main goal for me is always to play good here.”
“I’m just gonna keep fighting and keep pushing and breaking records here.”
Jabeur is next up against Veronika Kudermetova.
Gauff vs Keys Match Highlights:
Gauff, on the other hand, got the better of Keys. This is not the first time that the two have played together. Back in January, Gauff lost to Keys when they played in Adelaide.
“I just told myself to go down swinging, I was really going for my shots,” Gauff said after the match.
Like Jabeur, this is the first time that Gauff has made it to the second round of the US Open. For her fourth-round match, Guaff will face Chinese Zhang Shuai.
Adreescu vs Garcia Match Highlights:
In contrast to these two successes, Andreescu failed to make it past Garcia in their third-round outing.
Like Gauff and Jabeur, this is the first time that Garcia made it to the second week of the US Open and this is her 10th appearance in the majors.
It was a close game between Andreescu and Garcia. The Frenchwoman is next to play against Alison Riske-Amritraj who beat Wang Xiyu in the third round 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
