Now that the Australian Open is coming near, everyone is anticipating for the tennis players to come to the country. However, not for Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews who decided to shut the door on players who are not yet vaccinated.

In the previous week, Immigration Minister Alex Hawke had announced that they would ban tennis unvaccinated players to enter the country, while Prime Minister decided that there should be exemptions to let the players be quarantined for 2 weeks.

But Andrews declared that his state government won’t apply exemptions for unvaccinated tennis players to enter the country nor allow them to play when the majority of the Victorians are already vaccinated. He said that it’s unfair for vaccinated Victorians if they will let unvaccinated players to their state. He also added that he’s not going to allow Victorians to sit in the grandstand to be vaccinated, while the tennis players aren’t yet.

World Number 1 Novak Djokovic is one of the most anticipated tennis players to participate in the prestigious Australian Open, however, he chose not to disclose his vaccination status. The same goes with the World Number 2 Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic is on the fence today whether he should get a vaccine or would settle to a hard quarantine of 2 weeks if the Australian government would allow exemptions.

Andrews is clear and firm with his decision and said that unvaccinated players don’t need to come to the country. To be vaccinated is a health protocol and every player must be obliged to do so.
