Seventh seed, Polish Iga Swiatek, the 2020 French Open champion, also moves to the second round. She successfully defeated American 20-year-old Jamie Loeb 6-3, 6-4.
The 25-year-old Barty was missing at the US Open last year due to coronavirus concerns. It was a decision she says that makes her exceptionally proud. Barty says she wasnt disappointed about last year, but todays fans made it better.
She believes she made the right decisions last year, which gave her more time to train and get ready. Barty believes this years US Open will be a different adventure for her and her team, and it has been enjoyable since the beginning.
Pliskova will be facing American Amanda Anisimova next. On the other hand, Barty will be playing against Danish Clara Tauson while Belinda Bencic will face Martina Trevisan of Italy.
Before their recent win, Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka already made it to the second round on Monday.
