The "Hole" is described as the gaps or spaces exploited by the opponent team's attackers. This is also called as the running lane, where it was pre-designed for the moving players to run before the snap and establish the spaces after the snap. Each hole comes with a designated number. For instance, Hole number 1 is located outside the last man's area on the right side of the field while Hole number 2 is in between the right tackle and the receiver.
Position by Position Techniques
Some players are using the hole to attack the midfield position and to create an offensive technique against them. What made them attack the midfielders is because of their abilities to run for a score, so they have to counter the midfielder's capacity of controlling the ball and enhancing their vision from their opponents. This position has been playing an important role for the team because of their superior skills in easily contradicting the defense of the other team.
Characteristics of a Midfielder
The attacking midfielder plays an important role in winning the game. The natural capabilities that they have to possess are accurate technical and running skills and good instincts. They also have to be precise in reading their opponent's next move for them to deliver defense-splitting passes. They also have to be creative in visualizing their routes. Since their position purposed to play offensively, they have to play being the secondary striker of the team.
To Create an Offensive Playbook
Since Holes are being numbered, there are two traditional systems that each player should familiarize with. The first one is the Wing-T system which is similar to the scheme called "Tubby Raymond's Delaware." To do this offensive plot, the hole should be located between players on the scrimmage line. The next one is the Odd/Even System, whereas it uses the midfield as the starting point for hole numbering. The odd numbers should be located on the left side of the center, while the even numbers should be on the opposite side.
The Second Striker's Duty
Also known as the support striker, they are often described as playing in the hole, because they tend to be quicker and skillful to make goals and their scoring techniques should be outstanding for center forwards. They also have to be more creative in defending his team from the opponents by providing passing aids to the other strikers.
