Booking

Booking

The term booking refers to the act of noting the offender of being cautioned for doing an offensive maneuver. The offense caused by the offender leads to a yellow card, which is given by the referee. The referee records this offense in a small notebook. If the player continues to play recklessly, causing another offense, the referee will give him another caution. The second caution can lead to the player being sent off.

Common Reasons for Football Booking

When a player receives a yellow card from the referee, it is the discretion of the referee to allow the player to continue to play. The referee does not award a player with a yellow card unless there was an offense involved. There are various reasons for a player to receive a football booking.

• Unsporting behavior

If the player shows unsporting behavior by deliberately creating a foul play against another player, the referee will award him with a penalty. The penalty committed is then noted down by the referee.

• Shows disrespectful behavior

A player that shows disrespectful behavior by arguing with another player or the referee, he can also be awarded a penalty. Another form of disrespectful behavior is through action, including the offensive display of the middle finger.

• Continuously violates the Laws of the Game

If a player continuously violates the rules and regulations of the game despite being cautioned, he will receive a penalty. The referee can award the player with a yellow card or red card. However, it depends on the severity of the offenses made. The offenses are then noted down.

• Violates the required distance

During a corner kick or free-kick, there is a required distance mandated by the Laws of the Game before taking off. If the player does not follow the distance set, he can receive a penalty.

• Entering the field without permission

For a player to be allowed on the field, he needs permission from the referee to enter the pitch. If he enters the field without consent, the referee gives him a caution.

Football booking is avoidable if the player follows the rules. If he does, receiving a penalty from the referee is needless.
