FC Banik Ostrava is a Czech football club based in Silesian part of the city of Ostrava. They currently feature in the Czech first division and are one of the giants of Czech football.
Banik Ostrava were established in 1922 as SK Slezska Ostrava. In 1945 they became Ostrava and underwent several name changes since then and assumed their current name only in 1995.
Banik Ostrava have won several domestic leagues and titles and are reputed to be one of the giants of Czech football.
Banik Ostrava play their home matches at the Bazaly stadium that can accommodate 17,400 spectators.

They have been successful in the international arena too. They won the Mitropa Cup in 1989 and reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup in 1981. They had earlier reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup quarter-final in 1974.
