The official formation of Millonarios took place on June 18, 1946, led by the visionary Alfonso Senior Quevedo, who became the club's first chairman.

It was also a pioneer on the international stage, becoming the third Colombian club to secure a major international trophy with the Copa Merconorte in 2001.
