The origins of Unión La Calera trace back to a merger involving three local teams: Condor, Calera Comercio, and Tifón. This combination laid the foundation for what would eventually become Unión La Calera, officially established on January 26, 1954. The club made its mark early on, achieving its first promotion to the top tier of Chilean football, the Primera División, in 1961. They managed to hold their ground in the top division until 1974, before experiencing a series of relegations and promotions over the following decades.

The club's journey back to the top category began in 2011, marking a significant turnaround after years in the lower divisions.
