Djurgårdens IF Fotboll, most commonly known as Djurgår’n or DIF, is a Swedish football club based in the city of Stockholm. They are one of the biggest football clubs in Sweden and finished third in the Swedish first division in 2007.

DIF were established on March 12,1891 at a café in Alberget 4A on the island of Djurgården (trans. Animal Garden). They finished second in the Rosenska Pokalen in 1902 and in 1904 reached the final of the Swedish Championship, only to lose to Orgryte IS. They won the championship in 1912, 1915, 1917 and 1920.

Djurgården played just twice in the Allsvenskan between 1924 and 1944 but from 1944 they became one of the heavyweights of Swedish football. In the 1950s and the 1960s, the club won four first division title.

But the team resurfaced in the 21st century and won the championships in 2002, 2003 and 2005 and the Cup in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Djurgården play their home matches at the Stockholms Stadion that has a capacity of 14,417. The club bears the nicknames the Blue Stripes, the Iron Stoves and the Pride of Stockholm. The club’s fans are known as the Järnkaminerna (the Iron Stoves).

In 1981 however Djurgården were relegated from the Swedish first division and then became a sort of a yo-yo club, as they were relegated from the Swedish first division for not fewer than three times.
