Coritiba Foot Ball Club, also affectionately known as "Coxa," is a historic Brazilian soccer team based in the vibrant city of Curitiba, Paraná. Established in 1909, Coritiba holds the distinction of being the oldest football club in the state. Over the years, they have built a proud legacy, particularly in the Paraná State Championship, where they have claimed victory 37 times, outpacing both of their main rivals, Athletico Paranaense and Paraná Clube.

History

Coritiba made headlines in 1985 when they lifted the Brazilian Championship, showcasing their prowess on a national stage. They have the honor of being the first club from southern Brazil to secure a national title, having triumphed in the 1973 Torneio do Povo. Furthermore, they were trailblazers in continental competitions, becoming the first club from the region to compete in both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. Their impressive journey continued as they became the first team from Paraná to win the Série A and to reach the Copa do Brasil semi-finals in multiple years, namely 1991, 2001, 2009, with final appearances in 2011 and 2012.

Stadium

The team's home ground is the Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira, a venue that resonates with the passionate fans known as Coxas. This stadium has witnessed countless memorable moments and continues to be a fortress for the team. With a capacity exceeding 30,000, it is a vibrant hub for the club's enthusiastic supporters.

Honours

Coritiba’s trophy cabinet is a testament to their dominance in regional football, highlighted by six consecutive Paranaense titles from 1971 to 1976—a record that still stands. They have also made significant strides in the national arena, securing their position as a formidable force in Brazil's top-flight soccer. Currently, they hold the top spot in the FPF ranking and maintain respectable positions in both the CBF and Conmebol rankings.

The club has also embraced a broader sporting perspective, venturing into American football with the formation of the Coritiba Crocodiles, a partnership that emphasizes their commitment to diversifying their athletic endeavors. This fusion with the Barigui Crocodiles has given rise to a team that has once been crowned Brazilian champions in American football and remains a strong presence in the state and southern conferences.

With a robust membership of over 30,000 and a rich history of success, Coritiba continues to be a source of pride for its fans and a pivotal player in the landscape of Brazilian soccer.
