Founded on February 5, 1905, as Grupo do Remo, the club emerged from the split of another local team, Sport Club do Pará. However, the resilience of its founders led to a revival on August 15, 1911, spearheaded by notable figures such as Antonico Silva and Geraldo Motta.

In the 1950s, Remo gained international attention when it participated in the Caracas International Tournament in Venezuela. This tournament is often regarded as an early version of the Little World Cup, where Remo achieved an impressive record of four wins in five matches. The club is currently seeking official recognition from CONMEBOL for this achievement, which would mark its first international title.
