The Hartford Colonials> is an American football that takes part in the UFL. It is based in Hartford, Connecticut. The team plays its host matches at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The team started playing as the New York Sentinels in 2009, playing host matches in three different stadiums in New York-area including James M. Shuart Stadium, Hempstead, East Rutherford, New Jersey and Rentschler Field. The current head coach Chris Palmer is also the general manager of the team He replaced the previous head coach Ted Cottrell because of 0–6 loss in the 2009 season.
The team shifted to Hartford, Connecticut in February 2010. The shift was initially opposed by the owner Bill Mayer. The fans of the team were asked to choose a name among Hartford Guardians, Hartford Knights, Connecticut Yankees or Hartford Travelers through an online poll. Fans were even told to suggest a name of their choice. The fans came up with an interesting name ‘Hartford Colonials’ which was instantly liked by all. The logo and colors of the team were revealed on 24th May, 2010. It was a blue and metallic gold scheme and Hartford Colonials were the UFL first team to break from the standardized color scheme of the League.

Northland AEG, L.L.C. who are also the operators of Rentschler Field bought a share in the franchise upon the Harford Colonials arrival in Hartford. The size of the share they own is not known. The Hartford Colonials are also the first team in UFL to broadcast their matches on radio.
