This association is a member of the East Asian Football Federation. The team is from the Commonwealth of the Northern Marina Islands and is nicknamed as Blue Ayuyus.
The head coach of this team is Sekiguchi with most of the caps made by David Duenas (6 caps). Joe Miller achieved top scorer title by making 3 scores. The home stadium of this team is Oleai Sports Complex.
This team had participated in an international basis as a guest team in 2006 in Beijing in the U-14 East Asian Football Federation. Till 2009, the team competed against Guam team in the East Asian Football Championship in 2008 along with the annual Marianas Cup. At the EAFF Championship, the qualification process for 2010 was altered from the earlier edition which meant this team faced competition.
By July 2009, the AFC Exco accepted the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association initialized as NMIFA as an associate member of the Asian Football Confederation. This was after this association resigned from the Oceania Football Confederation in 2009, paving the way to join AFC.
By 2010, Northern Mariana Islands team achieved 1-1 draw against Guam in the Marianas Cup in 2010. This match ended in a draw due to insufficient lighting condition that continued throughout the match. During this time, Joe Miller scored for the team in the 68th minute with Jason Cunliffe answered for Guam in the 89th minute which resulted into a draw for Guam team.
